What is Oasis?
Oasis is a drop-in center for gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender, and questioning (GLBTQ) youth ages 14-24. Oasis is a
safe place to hang out, meet others, and learn about life. We also offer many
regularly scheduled educational programs and fun events. Oasis has a library of
books you can check out, and we offer a smoking cessation program if you need to
kick the habit. Our program BUST is a girl’s night that is held monthly, and we
also have a speaker’s bureau that goes out into the community to educate others
about what it’s like being a young GLBTQ person today. We offer HIV/AIDS
education and testing at Oasis, as well as safer-sex resources.
***We have a new and improved website coming soon! You can also find more information about Oasis on our MySpace page.***
Oasis was formed in 1988 by a group of concerned citizens, as a measure to help youth with alternative sexualities and gender identities live and grow in modern society. Oasis was first located within downtown Tacoma, Washington.
Improve the overall health and self-efficacy of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and 2-Spirit (GLBTQ2) youth ages 14-24 by: providing HIV and STI education including support for youth who are HIV +, developing healthy living skills, providing general education and support, increasing leadership opportunities for GLBTQ youth, and improving access to community services.
